Mary T. Custar's Obituary
Mary T. Custar, age 90, of Tavares passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. As a life-long Tavares native, Mary knew and was known by many people over the decades. She graduated Tavares High School, attended Stetson University and later graduated Nursing School from Emory University as a Registered Nurse during WWII. She worked in the medical field as a Visiting Home Nurse in and around Lake County during the 1940’s and 1950’s and later in a private practice. Mary was a life-long member of the Union Congregational Church of Tavares, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the D.A.R. and an active volunteer in numerous church and civic organizations. She leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Ralph; their son, Gary Custar and daughter-in-law, Becky; and their daughter, Carol Straker and son-in-law, Jeff; two grandsons, Ian and Graham Custar; her brother, David Treadway and his wife, Ann; her sister, Margaret Patrick and her husband, Maurice; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. A Memorial Service is planned for sometime in August at the Union Congregational Church of Tavares. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
