Mary L. Carlson's Obituary
Mary L. Carlson of Astatula passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the age of 82. She was born in Walnut, Illinois. After she graduated high school, Mary became a stewardess for Ozark Airlines, of which she was very proud. She met Roy Carlson while he was in the Navy. After his Navy service, Roy and Mary were married. They moved to this area from Walnut, Illinois in 1967. Mary worked in the Finance Department for the Lake County Clerk’s Office for many years. She also worked for the Lake County Supervisor of Elections. Mary was also a volunteer at Tavares Elementary School for several years. Mary loved horses. She enjoyed sewing. She was also a great cook and loved to bake. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family. She loved them dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gail Carlson in June 2004 and her son, Steven Carlson in January 2020. Mary is remembered and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Teresa Carlson Braddy-Bagwell of Astatula; sister, Verna Fritz of Walnut, IL; daughter-in-law (wife of Steven), Jenny Carlson of Sanford, Florida; grandchildren, DeAnna Hawthorne (Justin) of Astatula and Christopher Braddy, Jr. (Salena) of Grand Island, Florida; great-grandchildren, Walter Hawthorne of Astatula, Blake Hawthorne of Astatula, Rheece Elkins of Grand Island, Riley Elkins of Grand Island, and Case Elkins of Grand Island; and great-great-granddaughter, Marilyn Elkins.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 AM at the Astatula Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778; www.cshospice.com
