Marsha Minton Harris' Obituary
Marsha Minton Harris, 77, of Tavares, Florida, passed away March 26, 2024, with Charlie, her husband of 23 years, by her side. Marsha was born Marsha Minton on May 3, 1946 in Bloomington Indiana, to parents Martha Wilke Minton and Marvin (Jack) Minton.
She graduated high school and went on to obtain her undergraduate and masters degrees in education. She taught kindergarten for 38 years in the Martinsville school district in Indiana. After retiring from Indiana they moved to Okeechobee Florida where she taught for three years and then moved to Central Florida, finishing her teaching career of 44 years at Astatula elementary.
Marsha influenced thousands of young students with her strict but fair guidance, and many of the parents acknowledged that her guidance changed their child's behavior for the better.
Marsha was also a dancer, focusing on ballet, German folk dance, and Middle Eastern dance. She participated in many performances, frequently designing and creating her own costumes.
She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Charlie, after having lost contact with him for many years. They reunited in 1999, and married with a civil service on Christmas Day, 2000. They then had a Native American spiritual ceremony the following spring. They shared many wonderful times together, traveling the country on a motorcycle pulling their popup camper. They visited every state, many Canadian provinces, and Mexico on two wheels. They belonged to a group of like-minded travelers, and made many good friends enjoying hours of fellowship around the campfires. Everyone enjoyed Marsha's telling of native American folk-lore stories.
In more recent years they joined a camping club and traveled in their motor coach and continued to meet additional friends at campsites.
Marsha is survived by her beloved husband Charlie Harris, two brothers, Jack Minton and his wife Jean Marie, John Minton and his wife Diana, two beloved nieces who were like daughters to her, Mariella Sullivan and Juliana Rodriguez, a grand niece and two grand nephews. Her cremains will be buried by her mother in Bloomfield Indiana.
In her urn with her ashes is a long braid of Charlie's hair. Upon his passing a long braid of Marsha's hair will accompany his cremains.
We bid farewell to this wonderful and unique woman.
