Manuel Joe Sanchez Jr.'s Obituary
Manuel J. (Joe) Sanchez Jr. of Tavares, Florida, passed away on August 29, 2019 at the age of 95.
Joe was born on March 26, 1924 in St. Augustine, Florida to Golden and Manuel Sanchez Sr. The family moved to Tampa where Joe grew up. He earned a degree in journalism at Florida Southern College.
During World War II, Joe served in the U.S. Army as a surgical technician in England, and in France and Belgium on the staff of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper.
After the war, he began his journalism career with the Fernandina News Journal, in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Joe later retired after many years as reporter, chief reporter and bureau chief in the Lake County Bureau of the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.
Joe is predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Sue Sanchez. He is survived by Step Children, Mike, Bobby and Elaine Baker.
Joe will be laid to rest in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
