Louis Pasteur Herbert's Obituary
Louis Pasteur Herbert, 90, of Tavares, FL, peacefully passed away on June 19, 2024. He was born on October 11, 1933, in Coles Point, Westmoreland, County, VA, to his parents: William and Elizabeth (McCrea) Herbert. He was the last survivor of his 12 siblings.
Louis served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate and earned the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He had a distinguished career as a mechanical engineer at Polaroid, Raytheon and Johnson & Johnson. He was recognized on two U.S. patents for the advancement on manufacturing techniques for medical stents.
He is survived by his son: Walter "Scott" Herbert and his wife, Karen of Tavares, FL; grandchildren, Jonathan Herbert and Jessica Herbert; and great-grandchildren, Logan Herbert and Cecilia Herbert; his companion Lorraine Elderkin and numerous relatives from his large family originating in the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Herbert.
Louis was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a life-long traveler, avid reader and historian. He was respected for being knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects and as such, many valued his advice.
