Lila Lee Gifford's Obituary
Lila Lee Gifford, age 101, of Martinsville, IN passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017. She was born January 14, 1916 in Cherokee, AL. She was the last of 4 sisters and 5 brothers. Lila had 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl, Wallace, Joanne, Gary, Alan, and Michael. She is survived by Gary and Joanne. She was preceded in death by Wallace, Alan, and Michael. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She attended the First Church of God (Anderson) for many years. She lived in Pontiac, MI and also Chicago, IL for many years, but always considered herself a Floridian. She loved to sing while making dinner for the family. Her favorite songs are Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. She was a great wife and mother. She kept the kids together in trying times. She loved sewing and shopping for clothes. She worked at several jobs, including at a home for crippled children and a candy factory in Chicago. She was also a welder at Pontiac Motors during WWII and welded landing craft for the Normandy invasion. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00PM. Entombment will take place at Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall.
