Lawrence (Larry) Francis Lauer's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) F. Lauer, age 82, passed away on August 20, 2024, in Orlando, Florida surrounded by family. He was born August 7, 1942, in Petoskey, MI to his parents Edward and Theresa (Kruzel) Lauer. He graduated from St. Francis High School (Petoskey, MI) in 1960 and Michigan State University in 1968. Larry also served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years from 1961 to 1965 achieving the rank of Corporal. He worked his entire professional career (37 years) as an insurance claims adjuster for Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company and Adjusting Services Unlimited (The ASU Group).
The Lauers moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1975, then to Orlando in 1992. Larry will be remembered for his avid love of the water, boating, fishing, and being outdoors while always working on home improvement projects. He enjoyed the lakefront view from their back window and could often be seen checking out wildlife through a pair of binoculars.
Raising his children, he was also very active in all his son’s activities, whether it be scouting, little league or HS band boosters. And when attending his grandkid’s events, you could always find him chatting up the other parents. He never met a stranger. He loved collecting maps and taking long road trips. He enjoyed a good game of cards and was the ultimate cribbage master.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol (French) Lauer. He was a devoted family man who cherished time with their three sons: Steve (Linda) Lauer, Matt Lauer, and Jay Lauer. His pride and joy were also their grandchildren: Jon (Sarah), Ashley (Lars), Daniel (Taylor), Josh, Rachel and Jackson, as well as their great grandchildren: Aubrey, Luna, and Isabella. Their fourth great grandchild will arrive in November. He was part of a large, loving family from the Michigan area and is survived by siblings Cecilia Pemberton, James (Virginia) Lauer, Richard (Betty) Lauer, Diane Hannan, Timothy (Linda) Lauer, Barbara (Peter) Van Berlo, Janet (Rich) Wolf, and Cynthia (Martie) Van Berlo as well as many nieces and nephews.
