LA Duckett, Jr.'s Obituary
Luther A. ‘LA’ Duckett, Jr. of Tavares passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 94 years. He was born in Tampa, Florida and moved to Tavares as a child in 1927. LA, as he was known to his friends, proudly served his country in the US Army in World War II. After his service, he went to work for the railroad. Working with his dad, he helped build the tracks through Tavares and Mount Dora. Later he went to work for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama in the maintenance department until his retirement. LA was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Tavares, where he was very involved and loved by his church family. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Gertrude Duckett and Helen Duckett and brother, Thomas Edison Duckett. LA is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 19 years, Nancy C. Duckett; daughters, Jeannie (Leon) Trisco of Umatilla and Patti Holteen; step-sons, Dwayne (Christy) McGee of Tavares, Robert McGee of Tavares and Randall (Bonita) McGee of Birmingham, AL; sister, Reba Mahanay of Tavares and grandchildren, Lindsay McGee, Rachael McGee, Ramsey Quiroga, Brady McGee, Peyton McGee, Scott Silva, Anne Spuck, Susan Starnes and Chris Holteen.
Family and friends are invited to gather for viewing on Sunday, April 14 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm in the funeral home. A funeral ceremony is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Tavares Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 123 N. Joanna Street, Tavares, FL 32778.
