Judith Taylor Weikel's Obituary
WEIKEL, REV.DR. JUDI 63, of Tavares, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 12. Born in Daytona Beach, she was a graduate of Daytona Beach Community College, University of Central Florida, Orlando College and Life Christian University and Seminary in Orlando. She served in the U.S Army Reserve as a Security Police specialist. During her lifelong banking career, she was a Certified Internal Auditor for major area banks. Later, she traveled widely for her own firm providing bankers with instruction on current federal regulations. The book she authored became the widely-used definitive text for audit documentation required by federal regulators. Subsequently, she delivered nationwide phone teleconferences on the subject. After seminary graduation, she became an international Christian lecturer teaching in Bible colleges in Russia and Barbados. Her ministry in local jails and state prisons spanned 15 years. Inmates came to love her and in turn became better Christian citizens. Additionally, she conducted weekend spiritual retreats and served as chaplain aboard numerous cruise ships. After retirement, Judi embraced community service as chairperson of the local election committee. Moreover, she was hostess and producer of numerous local access cable TV programs. An avid dollhouse miniatures hobbyist, she collected items during her extensive worldwide travels. She also enjoyed beading and crocheting. She and her devoted husband, Rev. Dr. Tom Weikel, traveled extensively to religiously significant sites including the Holy Land. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday, June 3 at the Royal Harbor Recreation Center, Tavares. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International, PO Box 683, Eustis, FL 32727.
