Joyce P. Hodge's Obituary
HODGE, Nellie Joyce Peoples, a long time resident of Tavares, FL passed away August 11, 2016. Joyce was born January 24, 1937 in Covington County, AL. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Hodge; parents, Wesley and Treva Peoples; sister, Mary Evelyn Peoples, brother Ernie (Red) Peoples. She is survived by her faithful and loving daughter, Sharon Alaeddine, son Gerry Hodge (Kathy); four grandchildren, Marcie Smith (Randall), Brian Hodge (Jill), Brandon Hodge (Jennifer), Michelle Tate (Gentry) and ten great-grandchildren She is also survived by one sister, Betty Edmondson (Gary) of San Antonio, TX and six brothers; Bill (Buddy), Jefferson, GA, Charles (Caroline), Granbury, TX, Bobby (Wanda, Eatonton, GA, Wayne (Sherrill), Grayson, GA, Tommy, Milton, FL and Terry (Patsy), Florala, AL. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She served as Secretary to her husband during the years he was employed as a Theatre Manager in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. She was employed by Mackey Oil, Leesburg, FL for eleven years prior to her employment as an Invoice Clerk at Walmart, Mt. Dora, FL until her retirement in 2006. A special part of her life was her involvement in the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Tavares, FL Chapter. She served as Worthy Matron in 1976 and 1986 and at one time was Grand Instructor, District 14, OES, Tavares Chapter. A graveside service will be held at Tavares Cemetery at 10:00AM on Monday, August 22 followed by a memorial service and time of celebration at 2:00PM at the Clubhouse, Lake Francis Estates, Tavares, FL (where she resided for several years). A special thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice, Minneola, FL for the care they provided during the final stage of her life and to her daughter, Sharon, and granddaughter, Marcie Smith, for the care and love they provided over the past few years.
