Josie I. McCarty's Obituary
McCarty (Rakes), Josie Irene, 90, of Tavares, Florida, passed away December 9, 2025. Born on May 13, 1935, in Franklin, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Garland Rakes and Elsie Sanders. Josie obtained her GED and worked as a cross-country truck driver with her husband, Delbert, for most of her career. She loved to garden and crochet. On any given day you would find her listing to the gospel and completing word search puzzles.
Josie is survived by her husband, Delbert; sister, Mary Ellen; daughter, Jessie; three grandchildren, Daniel, Patricia and Angela; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Garland “Buddy” and Ronald; daughter, Joyce; and granddaughter, Pamela.
