Joseph Lofton Silas' Obituary
Joseph Lofton Silas died on June 1, 2019 in Tavares FL. He was born on April 3, 1934 in Rentz, Georgia to Owen Silas and Doris Woodard. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon Georgia in 1952. He attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1956 where he played basketball, baseball and football for the Gamecocks.
Upon graduation from college, Joe was drafted by the Detroit Lions. His love continued for sports with the Leesburg Quarterback Club and attended some Super Bowl games. Hours were spent on the golf course.
During his lifetime, he was general manager and sales manager with various mobile home companies and retired from White Aluminum products in 2007 after 20 plus years.
On February 12, 1982, he married Sharon Ruth Munson White in Leesburg Florida. They shared homes in Tavares and in Bishops Gate Golf Community in Howey in the Hills.
Upon retirement, Joe enjoyed playing golf with his friends.
He is survived by his wife -Sharon, children – Pamela Sheffield, Joel Jones, and Deborah Leatherwood, step children – David (Cheryl) White, John Davison, and Julie (Larry) Turner.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
