Joseph G. Gallagher's Obituary
Joseph G. “Joe” Gallagher, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2109 at the age of 91 years in Eustis, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Patrick Church in Mt. Dora, Florida. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the church.
Joe was born on September 5, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the middle of five sons born to Neil and Hanna McGinty Gallagher. He graduated Northeast Catholic High School in 1945 and enrolled in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Flordia and began working for the Seaboard Railroad as a track inspector.
In January 1978, Joe married his childhood sweetheart, Rita Simister Hanff in Philadelphia. They resided in Fort Lauderdale and in Plantation Florida until they moved to Eustis in 1982. Joe retired from the railroad and he and Rita enjoyed their lives in Eustis spending time with family and friends, doing volunteer work, being active members of Saint Patrick’s. Joe loved to work in his yard and enjoyed gardening. His yard at the house was always spectacular.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Rita on September 27, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Dan, Bub, Jack and Jim. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Dora or Cornerstone Hospice of Eustis in Joe’s memory.
