Sorry to read about John's passing. I knew him all my life. We lived a block from each other. He lived on Griffith and I lived on Neale Ave. I can remember when summers came, a bunch of us younger kids would go to John's house and he would use barber clippers and shave us all bald so that our heads would be cool for the summer. By the time school started our hair would grow back to normal. It was lots or fun growing up in our neighborhood. It was pretty much 95% ethnic. Most or our parents came from Eastern Europe from the late 1800's through the 1920's and our dads worked in the steel mills close to where we all lived. Our neighborhood was neat, clean, and safe and our mothers would even sweep the sidewalks in front of their houses in the evening after supper.
