Mr. John S. Strakis' Obituary
John S. Strakis, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 9th, 2019. Born in Onida, South Dakota to David and Mary Strakis on April 27, 1926. John is survived by his children: Janet (Tim) Nolan, Leesburg, Fl., John F. (Diana) Strakis, Grand Island, Fl., and Carol Wilkerson, Indianapolis, IN.
Grandchildren: Ronnie Eastes, Todd Eastes, Derrick Strakis, Valerie Kromberg and Michael Wilkerson, 11 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren, Sisters Anna Rosebrough and Pauline Jefferson and his partner Nancy Hastings.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Emil Strakis, Otto Strakis, George Strakis, Herman Strakis, Martha Knopf, Esther Nicholas and Dr. Marie Stirling and wife Betty Strakis.
He worked as a farmer, school bus driver, owner of Maywood Lake, and Co-Owner of Johnson County Sales Pavilion. John served in the Army and was stationed in Italy.
John's love of softball kept him playing to the age of 85. He was on a team that won a Senior Softball World Series where he was named MVP. When he was not playing softball you might find him on the lake or the dock fishing or out on the golf course. He finally got to see his favorite team-The Chicago Cubs win a World Series. He was a die-hard Cubie Fan and never gave up on them
Graveside services for John are scheduled for Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 PM, at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis, Florida
