To the Family of John Reger:

Sorry to hear about Mr. Reger. He was the first NFL Player I ever met as a youngster and I was in awe of this giant of a man who was so very nice to me when I met him. He even gave me an autographed black and white photo of himself from the Steelers that I had framed and was displayed on the wall above the desk in my bedroom.

I can still remember his finishing his career with the Washington Redskins while watching on a black and white television set. I also had the honor and privilege of attending Linsly Military Institute and seeing his photo hanging in the Behrens Gymnasium Entry Way with so many of the other Linsly Greats.

Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

John for me growing up was the story of legends. Him and my father Jerry Dugan were roommates in Pittsburgh in the early 1960's and I had heard many of their escapades. Beyond their friendship my father filled me with tales of his playing days for the Steelers and for a kid from Pittsburgh in the 1970's those were always mythical. After my fathers passing I had hoped to find him and let him know the news and to tell him he was one of those people my dad truly appreciated. I never got that chance, so today I share it with his friends and family. God Speed John.

My condolences to the Reger Family for your loss! I was lucky enough to spend some time with Mr. John Reger over a beverage where he told me story after story of his days with the Steelers. He was the best Uncle I will always cherish the memories of coming to Pittsburgh while our families spent a week together. He was just like a big old teddy bear, always laughing and having fun with the kids.
