John H. Pattison's Obituary
John Handasyde Pattison passed away on May 22, 2025, at his assisted living facility in Tavares, Fla. at age 91. Born in Peoria, Ill., on Feb. 13, 1934, to George and Evangeline (Kirk) Pattison, he was raised primarily by his grandmother Pearl Matthews Kirk on Grandview Drive in Peoria Heights following the death of his mother in 1937. John graduated from Peoria (Central) High School, later attended Purdue and Bradley universities, and was active in community theatre in Peoria. John served four years in the U.S. Air Force (including a year in Taiwan) and later lived in Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Florida. Gifted with a unique mind, John worked on the first big Univac computers in the 1960s and was a life-long enthusiast of radio, photography, science, science fiction (and other good books), jazz, folk and outlaw country music, musicals, road atlases, swimming and Yuengling amber ale. John is survived by son Steven Pattison of Ontario, daughter Penny Pattison of Montreal, Que., and granddaughter Molly Owens of Montreal. He is preceded in death by sisters Mary Sasse of Tucson, Ariz., and Anne Chinuge of Peoria, and half-brother Howard Pattison of Dallas, Tex.
