I knew Jack Lynd when I did volunteer work at the Edgewood Boys Ranch in Groveland about 1966 or 67. I also knew his brother, Jim. Jack was a good man and really cared about the boys that were placed in his care at the Ranch. Even though it's been 50 years since I worked with him, I remembered him as soon as I saw his name in the paper.

I met Jack and his son John in 1966 when I was sent to the Edgewood Boy's Ranch (as it was known then) for being "incorrigible". During the six months I was there Mr. Lynd and his son counseled me and and my dad who was a single father raising two children while in the air force. Unfortunately he was an alcoholic who had lost his wife to heart attack. Thru their compassion and desire to help both of us we turned our lives around. Jack visited my dad at home many times and convinced him to stop drinking, which he did. John Jr. who was in charge of the ranch convinced me I could do better and put me on the right path. Jack Lynd had one goal in life and that was to serve others. A true Christian man who practiced what he preached. I may have traveled a different path if not for him. God bless you Jack, and your family in this time of sorrow.
