John A. Holdren's Obituary
Mr. John A. Holdren of Leesburg, FL passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the age of 71 years. He was born in Washington Courthouse, OH to Willard and Ethel Holdren. After high school, John joined the US Marine Corps and played the drum in the Drum and Bugle Corps, traveling all over the world to perform. In 1981 he moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where he operated J.A. Holdren & Associates, a real estate appraisal business for many years. After his retirement, he and his wife, Iris, relocated to Leesburg, FL in February of 2010. John worked for a short time at Cracker Barrel restaurant in Leesburg. He is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 42 years, Iris; sons, Dennis (Veronica) Maready of Salisbury, NC, Sam (Lynn) Maready of Winter Springs, FL, Jay (Cindy) Holdren of Sanford, FL and Judd (Kathy) Holdren of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Beverly (Dallas) Settle of Walnut Cove, NC; brother, Dan (Debbie) Holdren of Valpraiso, IN; sisters, Patricia (Don) Johnson of Chesterton, IN and Ruth Holst of Chicago, IL; numerous wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 16 at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778, www.cshospice.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL. Condolences and memories may be shared by signing the guestbook.
