John Russell Eiler's Obituary
John Russell Eiler, age 76, passed away October 1, 2022. John was born July 8, 1946 to John and Catherine (Rohn) in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Buchtel High School and the University of Akron, and he was a member of St. John/St. Paul Lutheran Church.
John is survived by his sister Dorothy Kenley (Joe Nuzum), his son John G. (Kathleen) Eiler and grandchildren John Erick and Gerald; and his daughter Donna Dawson (Dan) and grandchildren Ryan and Abby, as well as many loved ones who have not seen him in recent years but whom he regarded fondly.
He was an incredibly loving and caring Dad. He was always cheerful and adventurous, and he loved road trips more than any other mode of travel. He enjoyed seeing new things whether it was the view from the top of the (formerly) Sears Tower or just hopping on an Akron city bus with no destination in mind.
He taught us important life lessons - like a 9mph motor will NOT assist your pontoon boat outrun a storm, and also you should stop for gas when mom tells you to, otherwise you are stranded in Nowhere Missouri and contrary to paternal assumptions drivers will NOT stop if they see sad kids.
He loved all his grandchildren dearly and he was always interested in what they were up to and what made them happy. He was the kind of Grandpa that tried to stay current with popular music to be relatable, but hilariously refused to update his dance moves along the same measure. He appreciated the value in silly things that would make us giggle as well as big moments when he celebrated our success.
While his loved ones mourn his loss, everyone who knew him can take comfort that he treasured the time he spent with you, whether it was a quick hello, a long visit, a phone call, or just recalling a memory from years past. He cherished every interaction, and he was thankful for time well spent. He leaves us feeling the same.
Graveside service will be 11:30am Saturday October 29, 2022, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fairlawn with Pastor Jean Hansen presiding. If he told you he was going to be buried in a 1967 Spanish Red Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe prepare to be disappointed.
