Uncle John was the best man at my parent's (Glenn and Marilynn Vanderlaan) wedding and continued to be one of the best men my family had a privilege to know. I have many wonderful childhood memories of spending vacations with Uncle John, Aunt Sue, Terri, Pam, Mike and Susie that included echos of our parents laughing while playing cards late into the night.
Bud was my dad's first cousin. He will always have a special place in my heart. He was a loving, generous, and funny guy. He used to come out to my dad's house and watch football on the weekend, and both of them would end up asleep in their Lazy Boys. He made my dad a fishing pole for his 80th birthday. The line was 80 one-dollar bills taped together, and it really reeled. He was always positive and encouraging. I always enjoyed visiting him when I was in Florida. I'll miss Bud.
