Joan E. Kelley's Obituary
Kelley, Joan Eleanor (Bryan) - 72, died at Hospice on October 12, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with a degenerative disease. Born, raised, and schooled in Boston, MA had a lifelong career in secretarial / professional administrative services working for The Boston Red Sox and The Statler Hotel before marrying and moving to Cape Cod in 1960. Both taught at the Riverside/Hopefield School and in 1962 had their first and only child, Deanne. Joan expanded her career and spent 15 wonderful years working at The Wiano Club in Osterville. In the late 70's, she helped open the first Thrifty Car Rental on the Cape eventually expanding to six other locations Cape-wide during the 1980's. She obtained a degree from Cape Cod Community College in criminal justice and combined with her secretarial skills, created her own unique business helping local and off Cape companies with secretarial and collections. In the late 90's, Joan retired from the Town of Barnstable having experienced physical disabilities but was an advocate and part of a disability group/committee in Barnstable's handicap parking program. Joan had many friends on Cape Cod having lived there for more than 40 years but in 2003 moved to Florida to be with her only child, daughter Deanne E. (Kelley) Frye, son-in-law Daniel, and grandson, Joshua. She enjoyed her new life in Florida and made new friends; she became an active member of the YMCA and her love for swimming brought her to the pool three times a week. She enjoyed the movies, family outings, cooking, computers and playing video games with her grandson. She is survived by all three, as well as a brother & sister-in-law, Philip P. and Elizabeth Bryan of Hull, MA, and their six children, her nieces and nephews Kathy, Lisa, Donna, Patricia, Philip Jr., and Michael and all their spouses and many children all living in the northeast as well as cousins living all over the states. Ceremony / memorial with family is private but donations can be made in her name to the Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778.
