Jeffrey Alan Anderson's Obituary
Jeffrey Alan Anderson, 70, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Captain Jeff, was born on October 7, 1953, in Biloxi, Mississippi. He grew up in the mountains of Kentucky, where he developed a love for adventure. He moved to Florida when he was a teenager and went to Tavares High School, where he made lifelong friends. After graduating, he joined the United States Army and served as a radar technician. He was honorably discharged and proud to serve his country. He was a member of AmVets Post 1992 Mount Dora. Getting his captain's license opened the door to a remarkable career traveling the world as a sport fisherman and yacht captain. Before becoming a captain, Jeff learned how to build boats in Fort Lauderdale with one of his high school friends. He also attended The Greenbrier, a luxury resort and hotel in West Virgina that has a long history of training and employing some of the finest servers in the country, and worked at the Lamp Post Restaurant, in Mount Dora, Florida, where he honed his hospitality skills. He lived in Africa for five years where he was a fishing captain for a resort. He then moved to Brazil and worked again as a fishing captain. There, he caught and released a total of 818 marlin, a world record at the time. After Brazil, he worked for many years as a private yacht captain, mainly in the Bahamas and up the East Coast to Narragansett Bay. Jeff was a generous and adventurous spirit, who loved to share his stories and knowledge with others. Jeff enjoyed his retirement years by pursuing his hobbies and passions. He created metal art, showcasing his creativity and talent. He loved fishing in Lake County, especially bass fishing and speck fishing. He bought a 1950 Studebaker and totally renovated it from stem to stern. Jeff is survived by his lifetime partner Patti Mitenius, his brother Herb, sisters Teresa, Paige and Julie and his niece Brandy. He is also survived by his loyal dog, Shug, and hundreds of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. “I Love You, Captain.” Patti A celebration of Captain Jeff's life will be held at a future date.
