Jeanette J. Sample's Obituary
Jeanette J. Sample, 82, of Tavares, FL, passed away on July 18, 2022. Jeanette was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and enjoyed traveling the country racing with her husband in a Fiat X1/9. She was involved in organizing many large events including a National Championship event. She was always praised for the successful execution of those where she was involved.
She had an idea to create a Solo II series in the Central Division of Sports Car Club (SCCA) called Yokohama Cen-Div Championship Series which became a reality in 1986 and is still going strong. She was responsible for securing the major sponsorship from Yokohama Tires. The series has run for 36 years, 300 events and is the longest running series in the SCCA after the Trans Am series. She was also the Editor of the Fort Wayne Region, SCCA monthly newsletter “Four Wheel Drift” in 1983. Fort Wayne Region won the National Award for Best Region Publication! Jeanette along with her husband Chuck won the Solo Cup for outstanding contribution to the SCCA Solo Events Program in 2000. She loved sports and was a fan of Indiana Basketball and followed Formula 1, NASCAR, and Indy Car racing. She enjoyed camping with her family as well as snowmobiling and an avid bowler for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends every week and was an avid reader. She is survived by her loyal husband of 60 years: Chuck Sample of Tavares, Florida, her son Donald Sample of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and her daughter Karen Sample Venable (Todd), and her only grandson, Joshua Venable of Lakeland, Florida and her nieces and nephews in Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Eleanor Jones, her sister Betty Stimson, and her brothers Jerry and Phil Jones.
