Jay Bradley Smoker's Obituary
Jay Bradley Smoker (May 30, 2018-January 18,2018). Born in Lancaster Pennsylvania, Brad Smoker was a lifelong educator. His career began teaching theater at universities and community centers, taking him to Rhode Island in the early 1970s. In 1985 he moved to Florida, teaching language arts and Advanced Placement English at Mt Dora and Tavares High Schools.
Brad is survived by his wife JoAnn, his seven children and many grandchildren (as well as two great-grandchildren). Having come to love the ocean as a child on family trips to the shore, one of the touchstones later in his life was the annual Smoker reunion at the beach or lake. At these gatherings over the last 25 years the family played in the water, were treated to a shrimp and crab feast, and performed skits in the "Smoker Follies". He was also a big fan of Bob Dylan.
Brad cared deeply for his family, and was a committed director, teacher and learner who believed that "life is a mystery, to be experienced in one's uniqueness".
