My family first met Jan and his family 48 years ago when they moved in across the street from us when they arrived in Orlando.
Jan was a ship master and was only home so often between cruising foreign ports.
While home, I always notice he had a new Mercedes he was working on. I would visit in his garage and he mention he was selling it and getting another one. This was his hobby that kept him busy and happy while home off sea duty.
One time he had purchase a Porsche to fill the time. He found another Mercedes to acquire, and I was able to purchase the Porsche which Jan has worked on to perfection for my family to enjoy so he would have room in his garage.
We would converse about many world issues but always respected each other's opinions.
When Jan and Andrea moved to Tavares to their new home they had built to their design Linda and I would visit throughout the years. Of course, Jan had filled up his oversize garage with cars he enjoyed working on and driving. I am thankful that I was able to talk to Jan a few weeks before he passed away.
Jan "old friend" may you rest in peace, and your memory will always be with us.
