Rev. James Edward Dye's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend James E. Dye, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and devoted servant of the Lord, who left this world peacefully on September 27, 2024 at the age of 82.
Born on May 1, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana, James dedicated his life to the ministry, serving as a Lutheran Pastor. He graduated from Capital University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary before serving Hope Lutheran Church in Indianapolis until his medical retirement. In his role as minister, James served on the Indiana-Illinois District Board of the ALC, as well as on the board of Lutheran Child and Family Services.
In his community, James was most proud of his work creating the Pastoral Counseling program at Perry Township Schools, which continues today.
James and Lynn retired full-time to Tavares, Florida in 2013. There, they are members of St. Philip Lutheran Church in Mt Dora, Florida.
Beyond his pastoral duties, James was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Lynn, who was his partner in life and faith. Together, they raised three children: Jamie, Tim (Sarah), and Kristi (Mark). James was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Belhamie (Gannon), Meghan (Drew), Julia, Jeana, Kari, Tyler, and Clara, and one great grandchild, Gersey. He is also survived by his sister Jacque, and several nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his father (Byferd), mother (Edna), and brother (Bill).
James was a man of deep faith, kindness, and integrity. His legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life and the profound impact he had on so many on October 27, 2024 from 11am - 2pm with a memorial service immediately following at Hermann Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hospice Foundation of America in James’s honor.
