James Mannon Combs' Obituary
Jim Mannon Combs was born on May 13, 1947 in Whitesburg, Ky. to James Monroe Combs and Ruby Maggard Combs. He was an only child. He went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 2, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Pam Combs, two sons, James Combs and Tony Combs, and granddaughter, Callie Combs.
Jim spent 35 years working as a banker in both Louisville, Ky. and Lake County, Florida. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing and riding bicycles at various bike trails throughout Florida. He was also an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He never missed watching the 'Cats play on television and was a former season-ticket holder in football.
Jim lost his father, a World War II veteran, at the young age of 16. Despite that setback, he persevered by escaping the poverty of Appalachia and making a name for himself in the banking industry. To this day, his clients knew Jim as a man who conducted business with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
His family members and friends remember Jim for his easy-going, gentle nature. Jim was a loving husband to Pam, his wife of 47 years. They spent countless hours riding bicycles throughout Florida. They also enjoyed making annual trips to Kentucky to spend time with family. As a father, Jim faithfully attended his sons' sporting events and took them on memorable camping vacations, as well as SEC basketball tournaments in Lexington, Atlanta, and New Orleans.
On January 6, 2006, Jim's life was enriched with the birth of his first grandchild, Callie Jane Combs. They developed an instant bond, and he loved telling her, "Give me a kiss on top of that head." Living with Stage 4 lung cancer did not stop him from traveling out of town to watch Callie's softball games.
Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Umatilla. His favorite church song was "Amazing Grace." That seems appropriate because he is now in God's loving arms and realizes what true grace really is.
