Jack D. VanHorne's Obituary
Jack D. Van Horne - LTC USAR Ret - passed away on August 20, 2021. He was born in Binghamton, New York to the late Dudley and Vida Van Horne. After graduating from High School he went to the University of the State of New York with a Collage Entrance Diploma where he went to Georgia Tech for a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was part of ROTC and went in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. After the war was over, Jack went back to Georgia Tech and got his Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Management. He then came home and went to work at Koehler Manufacturing for 32 years.
After about 7 years away from home, Jack went on a blind date with Bertha (Bergie) Duren and they found that they liked the same things such as golf, tennis and swimming. They met in November 1947 and fell in love. They were married on October 2, 1948 and spent 72 wonderful years together. They loved boating and spent many years boating on the St. Lawrence river. They also joined the United States Power Squadrons where Jack did some teaching. In 1996 they Jack and Bergie moved to Florida in 1996 doing a lot of traveling and making a lot of great friends.
They were soul mates.
