Irma Martha Malcolm's Obituary
Mrs. Irma Martha Malcolm of Faison, North Carolina, formerly of Tangerine, FL, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the age of 92 years. She was born in Stikgras, Germany and immigrated to the United States. Irma attended the Wayne State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska. She taught in the Rural Schools from 1938 until 1943. On May 7, 1943, Irma joined the US Navy WAVES and served as a Specialist First Class. While serving, she met James L. Malcolm, US Marines, in Waikiki, Hawaii. They were married January 21, 1946. Together, they moved to Oviedo, FL in 1948 from Nebraska. In 1967 they moved to Naples, FL and settled in Tangerine in 1999. In 2005 they both went to live with their son in Faison, NC. After 59 years of marriage, James passed away later that year. Irma enjoyed embroidery and cross stitch and loved flowers. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Irma is remembered by her sons, Carl (Karen) Malcolm of Faison, NC and Kim Scott (Deborah) Malcolm of Avon Park, FL; daughter, Anne (Thomas) Willey of Cooper City, FL; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Irma was also preceded in death by her son, James E. Malcolm in 1961. A graveside ceremony was held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Oviedo Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL. Condolences may be left for the family by signing the guestbook below.
