Hugh Swinton "Mac" McGillivray III's Obituary
Hugh Swinton “Mac” McGillivray III of Eustis, Florida passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the age of 81 years. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Noreen and Hugh Swinton McGillivray, Jr. In 1950, at the age of 17, Hugh joined the US Marine Corp. Hugh fought in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served his country for over 23 years before retiring in 1973 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Hugh married Shirley Burns in 1955 and started a family. He and Shirley were married 9 years before separating in 1965. She passed away in 2012.
In 1967, Hugh married Rachel Tomer. Leaving Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he moved his family to central Florida after his retirement, making a short stop in Lakeland before settling in Eustis. Hugh and Rachel shared 13 years together before they separated in 1980. Rachel passed in July of this year.
In 1982, Hugh married once again to Carolynn Mooney. They were together until 2005, when she passed away.
Mac was a member of the Marine Corp League and the VFW. As a young man he enjoyed square dancing. Later in life he loved going to Sebring for the races. Hugh is remembered and will be dearly missed by his sons, John Michael McGillivray of Carrabelle, FL, Steven Alexander McGillivray of Atlanta, GA, Hugh Swinton McGillivray IV and his wife, Pamela of Deltona, FL and Mark Andrew McGillivray and his wife, Robin of Sorrento, FL; sisters, Mary Rathburn of Bradenton, FL and Lois Blackwell of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Hugh S. McGillivray V and his wife, Kozue of Honolulu, HI, Sean McGillivray of Lake Helen, FL, Kristen McGillivray of Deltona, Mathew McGillivray of Sorrento, Caleb McGillivray of Sorrento and Christian McGillivray of Sorrento; as well as 2 great grandchildren, Karisa of Honolulu and Seth of Deltona.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, December 20 from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. A memorial ceremony will start at 11:00 am with military honors.
