Harilyn "Sugar" Adler's Obituary
Harilyn "Sugar" Adler passed on March 26th 2022 after a valiant battle with multiple sclerosis and cancer.
Her bravery and persistence was inspirational to all those who knew her.
Harilyn was born June 25,1945, to Jack and Dorothy Sugar in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Miami High and then went on to the Florida College of Medical Technology. Harilyn was married for seven years and lived in Minnesota and Hawaii before settling back in South Florida.
Harilyn loved her job as a medical assistant in Miami and worked for the same group of physicians for 30 years. Her patients loved to see her, even if it meant getting poked with a needle.
Harilyn loved to ride her horses and show her dogs in the dog show circuit. As well as training her dogs in obedience, herding and agility.
In 1996 she retired early due to her multiple sclerosis progressing and moved to Central Florida to be closer to her family. There she built her home on two acres which allowed her to raise dogs, chickens and even sheep. Harilyn also enjoyed her fruit trees and garden.
Harilyn's lifelong passion has always been animals. She was a member of and volunteer for numerous dog rescue organizations. Most recently the American Belgium Malinois Rescue. She helped to rescue and find homes for abandoned dogs. Even when Harilyn was unable to participate in person due to illness, she continued her support through contributions to many organizations dedicated to the care of animals.
She was an avid football fan, always cheering for her beloved Miami Dolphins and never missing a game.
Harilyn was a dedicated mother who made it seem effortless balancing her work and home life to raise her daughter(we know it wasn't effortless). Her lifelong and close friendships meant the world to her. She also treasured the entire Adler clan as they were a true family to her.
Harilyn was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Jack Sugar, and her brother, Robert Lee Sugar.
She is survived by her daughter Laura and son-in-law Robert Buckmann and, of course, her one and only and most favorite granddaughter, Robin, whom she adored and doted on.
Harilyn will be remembered for her fierce independence, courage, friendship and her sense of humor.
The family will hold a private memorial service, but invites all those who would like to attend virtually to contact her daughter Laura for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the America Belgium Malinois Rescue or the Lake County Humane Society.
