Gordon Nathan Shier's Obituary
Gordon Nathan Shier, a beloved husband and father, passed away on January 5th 2023. He was 85 years young. He was born in Troy, New York to Nathan and Marguerite Shier, on October 23rd 1937. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army. Soon after he met the love of his life, Linda. They were married for 64 wonderful years, and had 5 children. Gordon and Linda opened a successful flower shop in Pittsfield Massachusetts that they owned for 10 years. They then moved to Mount Dora and opened the Mount Dora Flower shop. Gordon was a master floral designer. He was very involved with the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association. Anyone that knew him, knew of his love for his Notre Dame Fighting Irish! There was no bigger fan. The New York Yankees was another favorite of his, he never missed a game. Gordon loved to cruise and travel. Vegas was one of his favorite destinations. He was known for his great conversations and spirited discussions! He is survived by his loving wife Linda. His son David (preceded in death) (Tammy) Shier. Paul (Paloma) Shier, daughters- Corrie (Bobbypreceded in death) Willis, Ellen (Bo) Coggins, Sheryl (James) Novack. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert (Marcia) Shier. He had 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren , who loved him very much. A graveside service will be held on Saturday January, 21st 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tavares Cemetery. Gordon will always be known for saying “MERRY CHRISTMAS” to everyone year round! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gordon’s name to the Lake County Animal Shelter or The Cat Protection Society of Lake County.
