Gilbert E. Cummins, Jr.'s Obituary
Gilbert (Gil) E. Cummins, Jr., age 70, of Tavares passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2012 after a brave battle with cancer. His family was by his bedside. Gil was born in Bessemer, AL on January 1, 1942 to Gilbert and Dimples Cummins. Gil grew up in a military family and lived in many locations during his growing years. He proudly served in the US Air Force and was also a member of Masons Pinecastle Lodge 368. Gil was a lifelong entrepreneur owning numerous businesses. He is well known in Lake County as a 31 year owner/operator of Haystax Restaurant, Little Gilly’s, and Cummins Ventures. Gil enjoyed the “art of the deal”, auctions, boating, RVing and travels to England, Mexico, Alaska, Italy and Costa Rica. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dee; sons, Tripp (Debbie) Cummins of Tavares and Greg (Nancy) Cummins of Umatilla; step-son, Joe (Kelly) Teddy of Los Angeles, CA; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family received friends at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 10:00AM until 12:00PM. A Graveside Service was held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 1:00PM at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E.
