George W. Smith, age 53, of Tavares passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his home. He was born February 27, 1957 in Columbus, OH to George (Sonny) and Lois Smith. He worked construction all his life. He enjoyed going to the beach, traveling to the North Carolina mountains, going to NASCAR races, attending old car shows and fishing. He is survived by his son, Justin (Diane) Smith of El Paso, TX; parents, Sonny and Lois Smith of Tavares; girlfriend, Roni Metzger of Tavares; sister, Lori (Gary) Cean of Lady Lake; nieces, Bridget (Brian) Faria of Mt. Dora, Brittany Smith of Tavares, and Brooke Sneed of Tavares; nephew, Jesse Sneed of Lady Lake. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Larry; paternal grandparents, George and Helen Smith; and his maternal grandparents, Ray and Neva Bonner. A Celebration of Life for George was held Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 4:00-6:00PM at his home in Tavares. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778.
