George "Marty" Russum's Obituary
George “Marty” Russum, Tavares FL unexpectedly died during the night July 17th 2020. He was a young 70 yr old man who loved the ocean and waterways of Florida. He always felt it was better to be on the water than in it! He enjoyed daily 5-8 mile walks in Royal Harbor the community he lived in the last 2.5 years. He was known by many with his safari hat, handsome tan legs, and his shades. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Chester Lamar Russum and Bessie Martin Russum. When he was 3 yrs of age his family moved to Ft Pierce, FL and he remained in FL most of his adult life. He graduated from Dan McCarty High School and University of South Florida. He had a variety of careers during his life but his best was when he retired at age 58 to enjoy life. He loved taking cruises, fishing, woodworking, boating, college sports, and taking care of his kitty “Beebe”. He was an excellent sandwich maker and always wore his Rolex. He was a proud man and lived by his own rules in “Martyville”. He is survived by his wife, Deb Rice. He leaves behind his children, Martin (Justine) Russum, Riverview and his daughter Morgan Haupt, Ft Pierce. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Samuel, Charlotte, Joseph, Isaac, and Charlie. He will be deeply missed by his mother in law Gerry McCullough, Tavares FL. His stepdaughter Michele Pounds, West Des Moines IA will always miss him as well. He also leaves behind his fishing buddy, Charlie Turner, Ft Pierce. Marty was a special man to those who knew him. He was deeply loved by only a few but he loved those same people with his whole being and soul.
