George Washington Keen's Obituary
George Washington Keen of Tavares, Florida passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the age of 82 years. He was born on January 31, 1933 in Lake Wales, Florida then moved with his family to Lake Jem, FL at a young age. He grew up on his parents' cattle ranch and was a true cowboy. George played football at Mount Dora High School, where he graduated in 1953. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany from 1953-1955. He retired from Hall, Farner & Associates, Inc. in Leesburg, FL where he managed the survey records and field equipment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora. He was preceded in death by his son, George William "Bill" Keen in 2014, his brother, Charles Lewis Keen, his sister, Betty Ann Blunt and his parents, William Alison and Opal Keen. George is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 36 years, Brenda Keen; daughters, Margaret Keen Hancock (Keith) of Tallahassee, FL, Jo Ann Keen Wegner (Richard) of Longwood, FL, Sally Bangs of Tavares, FL; son, Glen Blake of Immokalee, FL; grandchildren, James Hancock (Melissa), George William Keen, Jr. (Arianne), Jill Marie Lassiter, Annamarie Ku'uipo Kalamahaahe'o Keen, John Daniel Keen (Mandi), Brittany Brown-Blake (Shannon), Jordan Michael Dickens, Brooke Leann Bangs and Hunter Blake, as well as several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service honoring George Keen's life on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hickory Point Park in Tavares, located at 27341 State Road 19. The family asks that you please bring a covered dish to share. Drinks, ice and paper goods will be provided. This is an outdoor pavilion that is screened and has fans, but no air conditioning. Please dress casually for comfort.
