Frances Juanita Stone's Obituary
We celebrate the life of Frances Juanita Stone, born Francis Juanita Johns in 1931, known as Nita to her friends, Mema to her Grandchildren and Queen Bee of the Stone family. She lived her life centered around her family and gardening. Nita worked as a school bus driver for many years before retiring from the Lake County School board. She loved to travel and go camping in the Great Smoky Mountains and volunteered as a campground host with her dear husband Asa. The Stone and Johns family would often travel by motorhome to the mountains and call out to Queen Bee on the CB Radio along the way. You could find her every day out in her garden pulling weeds or doing yard work. We believe yard work in the garden kept her going day by day even though her pace had slowed down. She loved to drive her golf cart around and used it to go everywhere her car wouldn't go. Mema would often take Great Grand Daughter Ellie on adventures looking for oranges or sit and watch her learn to ride her bike up and down the driveway. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, the family would always gather around her elaborately decorated home and tree each year to celebrate the season. She shared stories over dinner of how she used to swim in Lake Harris when the water was crystal clear and how she played basketball in highschool. She often spoke of the joys of motherhood, and being a great grandmother to Adrian, Ellie and Charlotte. We will miss her presence, kind gestures and her hugs. She lived a long life, full of love and joy and would lend a helping hand to anyone who showed up at her door, including every stray cat. She was so kind, but not afraid to share her honest opinion. She didn’t hesitate if a snake came in the way of her gardening, she would take care of it and move on, with a can of Coke and a Honey Bun. Mema was a tough woman who is and will be remembered in our family for generations. We will miss her with all our heart.
