Ethel M. Lindberg's Obituary
Ethel M. Lindberg, age 93, who resided at Waterman Village, Mt. Dora passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013. She was born February 26, 1919 in Kerrick, Minnesota to her parents, August and Carrie Larson. She graduated from Moose Lake High School-Class of 1936 and attended Duluth Business University from 1936-1937. On October 26, 1940 she married Samuel E. Lindberg. Married life was soon interrupted by war. By war’s end in 1945, Ethel had raised eldest son Donald at the Larson family farm in Minnesota for the nearly 3 years Sam was overseas. After the war, the family settled in Brainerd, Minnesota. 2 more boys, Gary and Richard followed as did a move from town to a rural lakeside resort north of Brainerd. There were many years of hard work, good friends, and treasured memories. Later, with the nest empty, they moved to St. Paul where they completed their working years. With retirement came the call of the snowbird. They soon fell in love with and moved to Central Florida where they built a new home. Ethel lived in the area more than 25 years becoming a lifelong member of the Tavares United Methodist Church. In addition to devoted service to every church she joined wherever she lived, Ethel was also justifiably proud of her more than 11,000 hours of volunteer service in the Auxiliary at Florida Hospital Waterman including a 2 year term as President. Those 2 years were very gratifying and she was most thankful for the opportunities afforded her during that time. She always enjoyed and was quite capable of interaction with people from broad ranges of education and life experiences. As much as anything though, she enjoyed getting things done. She continued her lifelong commitment to volunteerism upon moving to Waterman Communities serving on the Resident Council and a variety of committees. Ethel especially enjoyed the opportunities to provide piano music and/or accompaniment for children and adults at schools and churches. She is survived by her three sons, Donald (Myhre), Gary (Lois), and Richard (Lynn); 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Anna Simpson of Springfield, Illinois. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Sam and her sister, Evelyn Johnson. In lieu of flowers, Ethel and her family request donations in favor of Florida Hospital Waterman Auxiliary or Waterman Communities Memorial Fund. A "Celebration of Life" ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Waterman Village Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares, FL 32778, (352)343-4444. Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall.
