Emma M Dupuis' Obituary
Emma Dupuis passed away in her sleep January 20, 2016. She had a good run in her 98 years. She was born January 3, 1918, in Chicopee, Massachusetts; the fifth child of William and Emma Theroux. In 1941, she married Gerard "Jerry" Dupuis and began their family, a daughter Louise, early in WWII. Alice came on the first wave of the baby boom, Philip followed 5 years later.
In 1953, she and the children followed Jerry to California where he had started a new career in the Border Patrol. Emma began creating a long series of friendships that would last a lifetime. As the family moved - California, New Orleans, Maine, Vermont, Miami, Richmond - more friends were added. After retiring, Emma and Jerry settled at Molokai in Leesburg, FL and became very involved in activities there. She and Jerry were together almost 74 years when he died June 6, 2015.
She loved music. Her clear soprano voice caused many heads to turn in appreciation at church and community sing alongs. We last heard it when God let her sing at Jerry's funeral.
She loved to travel. Each family move was a new adventure. In 1962, Jerry was on assignment in Africa and wired her, "Meet me in Rome." She did and they did Paris, too. After Jerry retired, they took the travel trailer out for an 18 month tour across the south, up the west coast and then across Canada - making new friends and visiting old ones. Every year, they would take off for several months, squeezing in as many national parks as possible before her eyesight failed badly. The made an annual trip to Border Patrol reunions around the country. And then there was the Alaska cruise!
She enjoyed food, experimenting with seasonings and learning new cuisine as the family moved around. Her family had tacos before Tex/Mex was popular.
She was a wonderful mother.
She is remembered and will be dearly missed by her son, Philip Dupuis of Leesburg; daughters, Louise Horgan and Alice Dupuis, both of Leesburg; sister, Alice Rivest of Chicopee, MA and two grandchildren, Matthew G. Horgan and his wife, Mary Catherine of Wheat Ridge, Colorado and David J. Horgan of Tavares, Florida. Mass will be held at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, February 09, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Leesburg. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
