Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Schott's Obituary
Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Schott born on January 6, 1933 graduated to Heaven April 24, 2022. The life that she lived could only have been planned by Jesus, whom she loved until the day she went home to be with Him. She first met Him praying at her mother's knees when only a child. At the age of 9 she went to hear a missionary speak and sensed a call to be a missionary, this call led her to Cuenca, Ecuador. While there, she founded a bilingual School. Latest count there were 1,200 students at that school. While in Ecuador she met another missionary who challenged her to surrender her life completely to Jesus. Betsy’s life and ministry was a life of holiness. Her life and ministry were completely changed at this point. After 3 years there she developed a heart condition causing her to return to the States. After returning Betsy stated “the Lord healed me” but she never lost her heart or love for missions. Back in the states she began traveling from church to church holding 7 to 10 days revival services.
Hundreds of lives were changed as she preached and taught what it meant to live a surrendered life to Jesus. Her message was to be cleansed and filled with Jesus. There is no way to adequately describe the extent of Betsy’s ministry. the many people she touched, many called to preach, called to be missionaries, and grow as Christians. Seeing them falling in love with Jesus. For 17 years she traveled doing evangelism, then a change came.
She contacted the district superintendent of the Wesleyan Church in Florida, a local church called her to “try out.” She became the pastor of the Lakewood Wesleyan Church and was there for 23 years. Her burden to reach her people with Jesus’ love and for missions deepened during those years. Lives continue to be changed. She preached with simplicity but always with depth and love. Betsy always preached with a beautiful smile on her face and a flower in her lapel.
The themes of her ministry were Holiness (holy living), love of Israel, Missions, and Faith-Promise Giving. Jesus used her life completely. Then retirement, she didn't like that and it only lasted one year! She then became the Youth Pastor at the Haitian Church in Mount Dora, FL called Victory Wesleyan Church. For 7 years she beautifully taught and mentored those special young people. It then became evident that short-term memory issues were developing. As her condition continued to deteriorate it was amazing to witness her love for Jesus and her strong determination to share Him never wavered. Despite her serious Dementia, Betsy continued to witness for Jesus. Being able to see Jesus through Betsy as the dementia stole so much from her has been one of the biggest blessings through it all. Jesus has continued in a marvelous way to communicate through her as only He could do. Two nights before she went home to be with Jesus she said “I'm a minister, I really am” and she was! Her testimony continues.
Betsy is survived by her sister Phylis, her nephew Philip (Sarah), her nephews David and Jonathan, her nieces Rebekah, Bonnie, Kathleen, Jill, and Joy, her grandchildren Alix, Jeff, and Cindy, her cousins Doris and Norman (Pat), and best friend and sister in Jesus Sue. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be sent to All Nations Church which is a continuation of her ministry at P.O. Box 895519 Leesburg, FL 34789
