Elena Fernandez-Arrondo's Obituary
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, March 7th at Steverson, Hamlin and Hilbish Funeral in Tavares, FL.
Funeral Mass for Elena will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 8th at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church in Eustis, FL. Burial will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Elena was 80 when she peacefully passed away and went to be with the Lord on Friday,
February 24, 2023 at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, FL with her family by her side.
Elena Fernandez-Arrondo was born March 20, 1942 in Habana, Cuba and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She fled to Miami, FL in 1962 because of the Communist Regime.
During this time in Miami, FL she met Guillermo Fernandez-Arrondo.
Elena married Guillermo on May 1st, 1965 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hialeah, FL. They moved to Puerto Rico where their two daughters Monica and Leticia were born. Elena worked as an Executive Secretary at Camel Caribe Corporation in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. Around 1979 they moved to Miramar, FL where they lived until they moved to Tavares, FL in 1993.
Elena volunteered her services as a Eucharist Minister and taught Catechism for approximately 10 years at St. Mary’s of the Lakes Catholic Church in Eustis, FL.
Elena is survived by her husband, of 58 years, Guillermo, daughters Monica Fernandez, Leticia (Anthony) Orrach and her sister Teresita Alvarez. She was the aunt to her very loving nieces Maria Teresita Castro Alvarez and Ana Beatriz Castro Alvarez. She was the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Anthony (Lana) Orrach, Ashley Porter, Lindsey Porter, Elizabeth (Emmanuel) Myers, Brittaney (Lonnie) Richards and twelve beautiful great-grandchildren. Her very special grandnieces Alexandra Bolivar, Veronica Bolivar, Adriana Bolivar and her grandnephews Ignacio and Antonio Lasso. She was close to her extended family and will be missed by many cousins and lifelong friends.
Elena will be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, family and friends, Her love for taking care of the sick, Her outgoing personality and love for a good time.
Elena was known as ”Mama” to everyone that knew her.
