Earl Lucian Gilbert's Obituary
Earl Lucian Gilbert, age 94, of Leesburg, FL and North Pomfret, VT passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014. He was born November 22, 1919 in Pomfret, VT. He was a retired accountant with Blue Cross Blue Shield and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII. He attended the Lake Eustis Christian Church and the North Pomfret Congregational Church. In his earlier years he was involved in photography, taking black and white pictures, doing his own developing. He was an avid flower gardener, raising prize-winning dahlias. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the Orlando Magic games. He had a special interest in genealogy. He had a love of cars and especially enjoyed driving the back roads of the country. He married Laura LaMountain of Woodstock in 1942, they raised their 4 children in Woodstock, VT. He married Shirley Dooley in Iowa in 1973. After her death he returned to VT. Later he married Barbara Chase Decoff of North Pomfret in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gilbert of North Pomfret, VT and Leesburg, FL; children, Carol Merrill (Michael) of Williamstown, VT, Anne Montgomery (Dave) of Montpelier, VT, Betty Powell (Arnold) of Woodstock, VT, Donald Gilbert (Tina) of Woodstock, VT; stepchildren, Micki (Dave) Peoples of VA, Andy (Marie) Decoff of Bennington, VT, Sally (Ronnie) Weglarz of Pomfret, VT, Peter (Lee) Decoff of White River Junction, VT; 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was Predeceased by his parents, Leon and Janet Gilbert; brother, Clarence Gilbert; great-grandson, Taylor Gilbert and step-daughter, Mary Jo Balch. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, Tavares. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your charity of choice.
