Dorothy Marie Sapp's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Stephens Sapp was born September 25, 1922 in Venice, FL and she entered into the presence of her beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 8, 2010. She was predeceased by her parents, Dewey and Madeline Stephens, her beloved husband of 49 years, Joe Z. Sapp, her eldest daughter, Ann Marie Sapp Campbell, brother, Robert Stephens and sister, Virginia Stephens Jones. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kathryn (Jesse) Hand of Orange Park, FL, Paula Elaine Allen of Tavares, FL; brother, Glenn (Janice) Stephens of Venice, FL; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. We (her children) thank the Lord for allowing us to be born into the home of Joe and Dorothy Sapp. Our parents were people of integrity and faith. Our mother found joy in the simple things of life such as the song of a bird, the beauty of a flower or a glorious sunset. Her God, family and church were the most important things in her life. Mom was our rock. One of her greatest gifts was the ability to love the unlovable or undesirable. Through the Crisis Closet at First Baptist Church of Tavares, she would help many homeless, hungry, and hurting people by encouraging them in God’s word and telling them Jesus loved them. She would hug the untouchable, hand out food and clothes and they in turn loved Ms. Dot for her kindness and love! Dorothy was one of the oldest members of First Baptist Church of Tavares and had been a member since August 1939! She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, she sang in the choir, and she was a Gray Lady volunteer for the school. She was an exceptional seamstress during her children’s school years and then worked for and retired from the Lake County Health Department in April 1988. Dorothy will be sorely missed by family and friends, but we rejoice in the knowledge that we will be together again in Heaven. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Tavares with Rev. Rick Fountain officiating to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First Baptist Church of Tavares Crisis Closet or the Billy Graham Association. Arrangements were provided by Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL.
