Doris L. Hood's Obituary
Doris Louise (Smedley) Hood, a cherished resident of Tavares, Florida, peacefully entered the presence of our Lord and Savior on January 28, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on September 19, 1934, to Vance and Belva Smedley, Doris was raised in a Christian home alongside her three brothers: Lawrence (Alice) Smedley, Norman (Marie) Smedley, and Jerry (Elizabeth) Smedley. Her upbringing instilled a profound love of God that remained a central part of Doris's life.
In 1952, Doris met the love of her life, Doyle Wray Hood, at church and they exchanged vows a year later. Doris and Doyle were blessed to celebrate an extraordinary 70 years of marriage in July 2023.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband, Doyle, and their two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Dehner and Donna (Lee) Buck. Their family extends to five grandchildren: Christie (Jeremy) Petresh, Danny Dehner, Joseph (Kelley) Dehner, Jason (Julie) Buck, and Jennifer Buck. Additionally, Doris leaves behind nine great-grandchildren—Bryce Dehner, Kylie Dehner, Caila Dehner, Jasmine Petresh, Colton Dehner, Blake Dehner, Avery Dehner, Mackenzie Buck, and Macy Buck—and one great-great-grandchild, Bryson Dehner.
Relocating from Indiana to Florida in 2013, Doris and Doyle found great joy in their membership at the Beverly Shores Church of Christ, Leesburg, Fl.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer's research.
