Donald R. "Don" Pursell, Sr.'s Obituary
Donald R. "Don" Pursell, Sr. of Leesburg, Florida passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the age of 74 years. He was born in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to Donald R. and Ada Pearl Pursell, who preceded him in death. Don served in the National Guard for 2 years as a Navy Corpsman, stationed with the Marines, prior to serving 4 years in the Navy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. When he returned to Pennsylvania, he went to work for ACF Industries, a railroad car manufacturing company. Don worked as a conductor and later as a buyer. He was a life member of the VFW and was a member of the American Legion, both in Lewisburg. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Milton, PA. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the NRA and a supporter of the NRA's Whittington Center in New Mexico. He loved sports, especially football and was a huge Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles fan. Don and his wife, Judy, were snowbirds from 2004 until they moved to Leesburg permanently in 2006 from New Columbia, PA. He is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years, Judy; son, Donald Raymond Pursell, Jr. of Mifflinburg, PA; sisters, Donna Long and Dawn Schwartz, both of Milton; 2 grandchildren, Adam Robert (Rachel) Taylor of Mifflinburg and Jennifer Ann (Dan) Rorbauch of Port Trevorton, PA and 3 great grandchildren, Emily, Katie and Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Mahlon Pursell in February of 1968 and his daughter, Ada Kathryn Pursell Taylor in July of 2009. A memorial ceremony will be held in the near future at the First United Methodist Church of Tavares. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
