Delores S. Avila's Obituary
Delores S. Avila, affectionately known as “Lois,” peacefully entered eternal rest on April 13, 2025, at her home in Florida, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old.
Lois was born on March 29, 1934, in Washington, D.C., to the late Lester Swanson and Gussie Lee Tyler. She was educated in the D.C. public school system and went on to lead a life marked by resilience, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Lois was united in marriage to the love of her life, Stephen “Steve” Avila. Together, they shared 43 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and partnership.
A proud and devoted mother, Lois raised seven children: Larry, Lorraine, Emory, Robert (who preceded her in death), Joyce, Eric, and Joseph. She was also a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Among her many special bonds, she held a particularly close and loving relationship with her granddaughter Tequila (“TC”) and great-granddaughter Bryanna, both of whom she and Steve lovingly raised.
Professionally, Lois dedicated many years of service as a Docket Clerk at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where she was known for her integrity, diligence, and strong work ethic. Upon retirement, she embraced life’s simple joys—traveling, dining out with loved ones, and enthusiastically playing BINGO.
Lois’s life was a testament to quiet strength, compassion, and enduring love. Her warmth touched all who knew her, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she influenced.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
