David Sixten Berglund's Obituary
David Sixten Berglund passed away at home in the company of his longtime partner, Carolann Downey, in Tavares, Florida, September 18th, 2022. He was eightytwo years old. The cause of death was pulmonary fibrosis.
Dave was born August 18th, 1940, in Waltham, Massachusetts, the son of Sixten Gustave Berglund and Gertrude (nee Lindquist) Berglund, of Sweden. Dave grew up in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School in 1958. He served with honor in the United States Navy from 1958-1961, where he sailed aboard the storied aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Hornet as a machinist and special weapons expert.
Dave attended Worcester Junior College, to graduate in 1967 and subsequently graduated Clark University - Worcester, Mass. - in 1970, with a degree in Business Management. An early employee of the famed Digital Equipment Corporation of Maynard, Mass., he enjoyed a successful career there for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1992.
Dave was a member of the Marlborough Country Club for thirty-eight years. An avid golfer, he was a tenacious gamesman, winning his division of the club’s golf championship seven times. He excelled at candlepin bowling as well. In retirement, he continued playing golf as a member of the Baytree Traveling Golf League in Tavares.
He is survived by his partner Carolann Downey of Tavares; a son, David S. Berglund of Rhode Island; a daughter, Deborah S. Berglund, of Massachusetts; by former wife: Dorothy Richard (nee Schonbeck) of Massachusetts; by Cheryl Tracey of Florida; James Downey of New Hampshire; Noel Downey also of New Hampshire and by seven grandchildren: James Tracey, Andrew Perry, Tayler Downey, Allyson Lowry, Corey Downey, Brandon Downey, Tori Downey; and two great-grandchildren.
He was loved by many. He will be missed.
