Daniel Lewis Stewart's Obituary
Daniel “Dan” Lewis Stewart (81) passed away on September 15, 2024, while in the compassionate care of Cornerstone Hospice.
Dan was born on January 15, 1943, to Dr. G.L. and Mimi Stewart in Fremont, Ohio. His parents preceded him in death. He was the middle child. He had two sisters: older, Suzanne, and younger, Sally (with whom he shared a birthday). Dan attended Ross High School where he was a strong student and quite popular. After graduating in 1961, Dan joined the army and became a Chaplain’s assistant. He then attended college at the University of Findlay, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English degree. Dan went on to earn his Master of Science degree from Nova Southeastern University, majoring in Educational Leadership.
Dan used his academic gifts to teach high school English for decades. He also served as an assistant principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Dan was humble and friendly. He always understood the beauty of a simple life and looked forward to a leisurely retirement -- so much so that he’d even dressed as an “old man” for Halloween as a child. After changing many lives as an educator, Dan enjoyed retirement with his wife, Janet. An avid reader, Dan spent much of this time enjoying books. Dan lived a life guided by his Christian faith, serving as a kind and faithful follower of Christ. Dan was congenial, jovial, and truly a friend to all. His family will miss him dearly but know he is very happy to be with his Lord.
Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet, and his children: Curtis (Martha) Witham, New Mexico, Tina (Dr. Brian) Gray, Colorado, and Daniel (Ann) Stewart, Washington; his two sisters, Suzanne Schaaf in Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sally Kaminski in Umatilla, Florida, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
