Daniel W. "Bill" Mason's Obituary
Daniel W. “Bill” Mason of Tavares, FL passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the age of 90 years. He was born in El Dorado, KS. Bill proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp. in World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he joined the National Guard and served until 1950. On March 11, 1946, Bill married Joanne C. Truman. Bill worked for the State of Kansas as an Insurance Regulator until his retirement. He was a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, Rose Douglas Chapter, 475; 32nd degree Mason and a class director in the Shriners, all in Wichita, KS. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling, Golf, boating and skiing. Bill loved spending time with his family. Bill and Joanne moved to Tavares in 1990 from Wichita. He was always helping her, building frames for her paintings and her artwork. They were together for 62 ½ years until her passing in October of 2008. He was a member of the Altoona Baptist Church. Bill is remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Billie D. Abbott of Tavares; brother, Lesley (Loreta) Mason of El Dorado; 3 grandchildren, Michelle (Charles) Mallia of Tavares, Shantelle (William C. III) Suiter of Columbus, NE and Corey (Misty) Abbott of Leesburg, FL; as well as 6 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to gather for viewing on Saturday, July 5 from 10:30 am until the service start time of 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Tavares Cemetery.
